Today is going to be another post from my Book Worm Series on some of the books I've read recently. Find out below each book, the summary, and what grade I gave each of them. Enjoy!
1. Looking For Alaska by John Green
I'm becoming a big fan of John Green and have made it a mission to read every book he has written. This is the second book I've read by him, the first being The Fault In Our Stars (Loved it!).
"Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . .
After. Nothing is ever the same."

2. The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp
I had heard really good things about this book, so when I heard it was going to be made into a movie I decided to pick it up. The style of it reminded me of "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" (Really Liked it!). If you enjoyed that book, you would probably enjoy this one as well.
"SUTTER KEELY. He's the guy you want at your party. He’ll get everyone dancing. He’ ll get everyone in your parents’ pool. Okay, so he’s not exactly a shining academic star. He has no plans for college and will probably end up folding men’s shirts for a living. But there are plenty of ladies in town, and with the help of Dean Martin and Seagram’s V.O., life’s pretty fabuloso, actually.
Until the morning he wakes up on a random front lawn, and he meets Aimee. Aimee’s clueless. Aimee is a social disaster. Aimee needs help, and it’s up to the Sutterman to show Aimee a splendiferous time and then let her go forth and prosper. But Aimee’s not like other girls, and before long he’s in way over his head. For the first time in his life, he has the power to make a difference in someone else’s life—or ruin it forever."

3. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
When I heard that there was a series about a school for vampires, similar to that of a school for wizards - aka Hogwarts -, I was sold and knew I just had to give the series a try. Vampire Academy is nothing like Harry Potter. But it is really fun and I enjoyed the world Richelle Mead created in Vampire Academy. It's a quick, fun read.
"St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school–it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's–the very place where they're most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi–the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires–make Lissa one of them forever."
GRADE: Loved it!
4. Frostbite by Richelle Mead
This is Book Two in the Vampire Academy series. I downloaded it as soon as I was done with Book One. I would have downloaded Book Three, but I had a bunch of other books that I still needed to read, so I decided to hold off on purchasing Three until I have read more of the book I already have.
"Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose
It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if handto- hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks.... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.
But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price"

5. FanGirl by Rainbow Rowell
I was browsing through Barnes and Noble one day and came across the cover of Fan Girl. I read the inner flap and thought it sounded promising because of yet another Harry Potter similarity (do we see a trend here?). The book series that the main character is a big fan of really reminded me of Harry Potter, so naturally I wanted to read it and added it to my Christmas List. It took me a while to get around to reading it because I was finishing the Divergent Series. FanGirl is such a good book, and has become an absolute favorite of mine!
"In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?"

6. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
This was another random find for me. I was searching through the paranormal section when the cover stood out to me. I really like paranormal, fantasy type books. I have the most fun with them because anything is possible and I can escape to a different world for a little while. It got kind of slow at times, but towards the end it picked up the pace. I do plan on giving the second book in the series a try.
"When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government "rehabilitation camp." She might have survived the mysterious disease that's killed most of America's children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.
When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she's on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her-East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can't risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living."
